Apple may be allegedly looking to refresh the SE series that has secured a market of its own in India. According to sources from 9to5Mac, Apple may be looking to launch a new version of the iPhone SE in August. However, considering Apple’s product cycle, this news must be taken with a grain of salt.
The iPhone SE has created its own audience in India which consists of people who are looking to jump the Apple bandwagon and enjoy the iOS ecosystem. According to reports, the new version of the iPhone SE should retail around $400 which converts to around Rs. 26000. The current version of the iPhone SE is sold at a price tag of Rs. 25000 for the 32GB variant.
Apple is looking to launch the tenth edition iPhone and the iPhone 7S in early September and this could steal the show due to its low price tag. Considering this, Apple may not launch the iPhone SE 2 at all as per the earlier leaks from SlashGear. Apple is focussing mainly on larger display devices and the SE just doesn’t fit in its priority at the moment. Apple has managed to stay in limelight with the iPhone 8 for all reasons possible, be it the edge-to-edge AMOLED display or the home button placement on it. All of these facts combined, make the new version of the iPhone SE unlikely to make it to the real world.
Rewinding back in time, the iPhone SE was launched in March 2016 as an attempt to compensate the failure of the iPhone 5C, and yet have a low-end variant to stay competent. The iPhone SE also catered to people who preferred small screen devices that enhanced single hand usage. Apple also threw in components from the iPhone 6S to keep the device up to speed. The SE was also the first Apple device to be manufactured in the brand new Bengaluru plant and came with the caption,”Designed in California. Made in Bengaluru.”
